The Wizard of Oz Lot (Knowles China Company, 1977-1979). Limited Edition Plates (5) (8.5" & 10" Diameters) James Auckland Artwork, & Sheet Music (6 Pages, 9" X 12"). Fantasy.
Offered is a beautiful assortment of limited edition plates from Edwin M. Knowles prestigious fine china company, featuring delightful artwork from James Auckland. Plates include a first issue - titled "Over the Rainbow" - which finds a young Dorothy and longtime companion Toto singing their way through the orchards of Oz; a third issue - "If I Only Had a Heart" - wherein the jolly old Tin Man does a little soft shoe routine after finding his mobility for the first time in oh-so-many decades; a fourth issue - "If I Were King" - with the Lion galumphing his way boldly through the forest; and finally, two pressings of the final eighth issue plate (one of which comes with its original packaging, including a Certificate of Authenticity) - "The Grand Finale" - in which the whole gang, Scarecrow included, can be seen skipping towards the poppies with the majestic Emerald City in the background. Also featured is a piece of sheet music for Judy Garland's immortal lullaby, "Over the Rainbow," with lyrics by E.Y. Harburg and music by Harold Arlen (Leo Feist, Inc., 1939). Unrestored items with bright colors and clean overall appearances. The loose plates show only the slightest wear on their resting edges. The packaging for the other eighth issue plate has been opened, and there are some pen notations on the inner flap of the box. Each of the plates has a unique issue number on the back. The sheet music shows additional signs of age, including faint smudges, weak dust shadows, very small tears, and a thin piece of cellophane tape at the bottom of the front cover. There is also a minor chip in the top of the center page. Please see full-color, enlargeable images above for more details. Due to the size and/or weight of this lot, shipping costs may be somewhat higher than usual. Overall Grade: Very Fine+.
