Description

A Kiss for Cinderella (Paramount, 1925). Very Fine on Linen. Three Sheet (41" X 80").
Actress Betty Bronson was hand-picked by author James M. Barrie for the title role for the first film adaptation of Peter Pan. A year later she starred in another film version of a Barrie play, A Kiss for Cinderella. The film "modernized" the fairy tale and brought into then-present day 1925, as it follows a young servant girl as she fantasizes about becoming Cinderella for a night to escape the harsh realities of poverty during World War I. Barrie had a particular concern about the plight of children during the war, which found its way into this story, when the young servant girl takes care of a group of refugee children, despite her already tough living conditions. This magnificently three sheet (likely the only surviving example of this poster) is offered for the first time by Heritage and displays a beautiful scene from the girl's fantasy as she flies through the sky in a golden carriage, as surprised villagers look up, with a castle in the background. Light touchup has been applied to fold wear and separation, chips, a corner bend, creases, and some tears in the lower crossfold and borders.
