Monkey on My Back tells the story of real-life world champion boxer and World War II hero Barney Ross. After losing a $10,000 bet on himself winning a fight, Ross joins the Marines when war breaks out, where he saves another soldier's life, earns the Silver Star Medal, and becomes addicted to morphine after contracting malaria. Once back home in Chicago, he become more addicted to morphine, only to enter into rehab when his drug supplier is arrested. While largely fictionalized, the film was one of many in the 1950s that explored people's decent into drug addiction. This original artwork was likely produced as a mockup for a German window card, depicting Ross about to inject himself with morphine as he remembers his experience in combat. This artwork shows minor stains and cellophane tape in the left and right borders.
