Description

    Duck Soup (Paramount, 1934). French Grande (46.5" X 61.5") C. Venabert Artwork.
Widely considered to be the most hilarious of all the Marx Brothers features, this comedy has nonstop laughs still splitting the sides of modern viewers from beginning to end. Anarchic humor reigns supreme in this madcap political farce, containing a satire so strong that Benito Mussolini himself banned the film from Italian distribution, much to the Brothers delight. Though it's deemed a masterwork of comedy today, Duck Soup received only tepid reception at its original release, its high-strung antics and political cynicism falling flat to depression-weary audiences. Regardless, the film has become a beloved classic around the world and is undoubtedly one of the greatest moments in the Marx Brothers' careers. Heritage is thrilled to present this rare original French grande for the first time, featuring a more literal interpretation of the playful title with high-energy artwork from C. Venabert. This large format poster would look great in any comedy collection, with touchup applied to the folds, pinholes in the borders and background, a small tear in the top border, a minor chip in the right border, a crimp in Zeppo's suit, and a tear from the right border into Zeppo's hair. The poster still shows a few visible pinholes in the borders and background and there are some post-restoration stains in the right border. Very Fine- on Linen.
