Unknown Blonde is a lesser-known pre-Code drama that explores themes of deception, scandal, and redemption. The film follows a young woman whose past as a showgirl threatens to ruin her new life when she becomes entangled in a high-society scandal. Based on Theodore D. Irwin's 1932 novel Collusion, the film demonstrates how far Poverty Row studios were willing to go in the years before Hayes cracked down. This one sheet, a first-time offering from Heritage Auctions, is quite simply one of the most sensational pre-Code posters we have ever seen. With a faux newspaper and magazine clippings (including one declaring, "I was the UNKNOWN BLONDE in a hundred divorces"), the poster exudes the thinly veiled sensuality that came to define this era of Hollywood. There are some edge chips, tears, airbrushing, and additional creases in the top and bottom panels. While Unknown Blonde may be overlooked by all but the most dedicated pre-Code enthusiasts, this poster is anything but forgettable.
