Description

The Wind (MGM, 1928). Fine+ on Paper. Insert (14" X 36").
Often considered as one of the greatest films of the silent era, The Wind stars Lillian Gish in one of her most memorable roles. The Wind was Gish's final silent film and her final role while under contract to MGM. She was given creative freedom while at MGM, and it was her idea to adapt Dorothy Scarborough's novel of the same name and to hire Victor Sjöström and Lars Hanson, the film's director and leading man respectively. While the encroachment of sound pictures caused The Wind to be a financial loss in the United States upon its release in 1928, the film is fondly remembered for its artistic achievement and Gish's incredible performance. Offered here for the first time at Heritage is a rare insert for the film featuring Gish and Hanson in an embrace. Prior to restoration, the poster displayed pinholes, chips, and tears. Missing paper has been replaced mostly in the top and bottom borders, with some of the replaced paper touched up to match the bottom of the image, which also has a small amount of paper missing. Much of the background area has been airbrushed, and professional restoration has made this a wonderful poster ready for display.
