    The Volga Boatman (Producers Distributing Corp., 1926). Pre-War Belgian (24.25" X 33.5").
Though his name later became synonymous with the famous cowboy character Hopalong Cassidy, this silent drama was William Boyd's first film as a major Hollywood star. It was his second starring role under the master director Cecil B. De Mille, who had brought Boyd to the attention of both critics and audiences in the 1925 film The Road to Yesterday. In this historical epic, Boyd plays a spirited young Bolshevik named Feodor, who falls for the Russian Princess Vera, played by Elinor Fair. Unknown to the audiences watching the silent drama, Boyd actually proposed to Fair during the scene where Feodor confesses his love to Vera. Of course, Fair accepted in both the script and in real life. It's Heritage's first time to offer any poster for the film, and this incredible stone litho Belgian is an excellent debut for the title. Although backed on linen, the poster has had no touchup applied whatsoever. The only apparent signs of handling are a small tear in the upper border, and a minor nick in the upper right border. Very Fine + on Linen.
