Description

The Song of Songs (Paramount, 1933). Lobby Card (11" X 14").
Marlene Dietrich plays the embodiment of innocence in her first role without director/mentor/Svengali Josef von Sternberg. Instead, Robert Mamoulian helmed the story of an orphaned peasant (Dietrich) from the German countryside who travels to Berlin to stay with her aunt, and of course, the big city quickly exploits her naivete. Becoming a nude model, she falls in love with a struggling artist (Brian Aherne), but she cannot resist the marriage proposal of a hedonistic baron (Lionel Atwill). There are pinholes in the borders, small chips and bends in the top corners, and a small tear in the right border. There has been a small amount of color fading. This card features a splendidly dressed Dietrich flanked by Atwill and Alison Skipworth. Fine+.

    Estimate: $300 - $600.
