Description

The Passion of Joan of Arc (Gaumont, 1928). French Double Grande (63" X 95") Rene Peron Artwork.
Many consider The Passion of Joan of Arc to be Danish director Carl Theodor Dreyer's finest achievement. With documentary style authenticity, Dreyer recreates Joan of Arc's trial and execution with detailed accuracy, using breathtaking cinematography to convey every emotion. It is because of this rule-breaking cinematography, along with the superb acting, that the film retains its marvelous power today. Dreyer was also able to portray a different side to Joan's "passion," one that was just as erotic as it was spiritual. Just as expressive is this superb Art Deco image by the renown poster artist Rene Peron, most famous for his iconic illustration on the original French grandes for King Kong. A beautiful piece with very little wear, the poster had a tear in the lower left corner, some fold separation, and a tear in the upper border prior to restoration. There is one pinhole in the corners of the right section, and some fold toning. Very Fine on Linen.
