Description

The Magnificent Ambersons (RKO, 1942). One Sheet (27.25" X 41").
Acclaimed by many critics and Welles aficionados to be the director's finest work, this story of the rise and fall of an upper-class Midwestern family at the turn of the century was Welles' follow-up to Citizen Kane. Based on the novel by Booth Tarkington, the film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture, but lost to Mrs. Miniver. This marvelous one sheet features exquisite portraits of the film's stars by renowned American artist Norman Rockwell. The poster is mounted on linen, with touchup to the left background, the top vertical fold/small surface paper loss in Joseph Cotten's face, and two small holes in the bottom right corner. Overall, the piece is in lovely shape, with warm, rich colors and Rockwell's signature eye for detail. Notice the tagline that says, "From the Man Who Made the Best Picture of 1941" in reference to Welles and Citizen Kane, which was nominated but did not win that award! Fine/Very Fine on Linen.
