Description
The Magnificent Ambersons (RKO, 1942). One Sheet (27" X 41").After the amazing success of Orson Welles' first film, Citizen Kane, the young director was faced with the daunting task of creating another masterpiece. His response was The Magnificent Ambersons, based on the 1918 novel of the same name. The film became an epic, but RKO took control away from Welles, re-cut the film and released it with a completely new ending. Even with the loss of the director's vision, the film is widely regarded as a classic of the cinema and has been preserved in the National Film Registry. As impressive as the film itself, this spectacular one sheet was designed by American artist Norman Rockwell. Synonymous with Americana, Rockwell was the perfect choice to depict the cast as portraits of an American family. This beautiful poster has had the upper 1-2" of paper restored in the white border. There was some chipping in the upper left and lower right corner, none of which affects the artwork. There were tape stains at the corners and the border where the horizontal fold lines intersected at the upper two horizontal folds. There was minor fold line touch-up. Professional restoration has the poster displaying magnificently! Fine+ on Linen.
