    Description

    The Lady Takes a Flyer (Universal International, 1958). Original 24 Sheet Artwork (18" X 31.5") and Oversize Art Department Photo (16" X 20"). .
This is an amazing and unique lot! It contains a complete mini-archive of how a film poster is put together. Better yet, it comes from one of the top studios, and from one of the best Art Directors in the business, Mischa Kallis, a fine painter in his own right. Mr. Kallis was the father of Albert Kallis who gave us some of the best sci-fi/horror posters in collecting. He was also the man responsible for hiring legend Reynold Brown for Universal in 1951 where Brown developed over 250 campaigns. The archive here takes you from an original 16" X 20" special photo which was used by the art department to create the 24 sheet for The Lady Takes a Flyer, to the finished product. The Kallis art department stamp with initialed sign-offs for delivery is stamped on the original mat, and the original art has the finished credit layout pasted on. The back page of the original pressbook is attached, to show exactly how successful they were at producing a beautiful painting, enhancing even further the terrific photograph. There are precious few examples of how posters originate, and this would be a great piece that any collector or archive could use to explain their passion. The photograph is in mint condition. The painting is near mint, and the matboard has only some age toning, minor edge wear, and corner bumps. Very Fine.
