DescriptionThe Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (Metro, 1921). Six Sheet (77.5" X 79").
Rudolph Valentino remained an extra for seven years before he landed his first starring role in this breakthrough film. Even still, veteran star Wallace Beery actually received a higher paycheck than leading man Valentino, despite Beery only appearing in a very minor role. That, of course, would soon change with Valentino's ascent to the world's most famous wooer of women. Here he plays a carefree artist reluctant to go to war, until the conflict is brought to his doorstep. The impressive tango sequence performed early on in the story made him an instant star and male sex symbol, with the film becoming the highest-grossing silent picture -- the equivalent of $300 million today. Featuring a dramatic image of Valentino with costars Joseph Swickard and Nigel De Brulier, this excellent six sheet has received touchup to the folds, mild chips and tears in the borders and folds, and the borders have been airbrushed. There is slight post-restoration wear in the corners. Fine/Very Fine on Linen.
Estimate: $4,000 - $8,000.
