Featuring daring performances by British acting icons Vanessa Redgrave and Oliver Reed, Ken Russell's The Devils tells a fictionalized version of the downfall of Urbain Grandier, the Roman Catholic priest who was falsely accused of witchcraft and viscously burned at the stake. Upon its release, The Devils ignited audience's ire for its depictions of sexuality, religion, and violence, but nevertheless remains especially noted in for its legacy as one of the most controversial films of all time. Heritage is proud to present this final draft screenplay for the film written by Ken Russell, inspired by both Aldous Huxley's nonfiction novel The Devils of Loudon and John Whiting's play The Devils, dated July 28, 1970. In overall excellent condition, the script displays minor wear that is primarily concentrated to its front and back covers, such as light edge and corner wear, miniscule border tears, slight graphite markings, faint creases, unobtrusive smudges and printing irregularities, and very minute staining spots.
