Description
The Blue Angel (UFA, 1930). Fine. Paper-Backed. Pre-War German Poster (37.5" X 54").Having declined an offer to direct a film about the infamous Grigori Rasputin, iconic German filmmaker Josef von Sternberg found his next project in Heinrich Mann's story Professor Unrat, which he adapted and retitled The Blue Angel. A landmark in cinema history, the film features the winning pairing of the legendary Marlene Dietrich and exceptional Emil Jannings as its ill-fated couple. The Blue Angel also holds the distinction of being one of Germany's first major sound films, bridging the era between silent and talkie cinema. It poignantly portrays the downfall of a rigid professor (Jannings) ensnared by his infatuation with a beguiling cabaret singer (Dietrich). Dietrich's sultry performance and her rendition of "Falling in Love Again (Can't Help It)" catapulted her to international stardom. Remarkably, the film was shot simultaneously in German and English, with actors performing scenes twice, and paving the way for international acclaim. Though backed on paper, only minimal touchup has been applied to address some fold wear, creases, and tears. Additionally, slight edge and fold wear, creases, pinholes, some scuffs, moderate tears, and predominantly small stains along the borders, remain visible. A timeless exploration of obsession and societal decay, The Blue Angel remains a masterpiece of cinematic storytelling, so do not miss your chance to own this first offering original release German poster from Heritage! From the Richard C. Allen Collection.
