    Description

The Bitter Tea of General Yen (Columbia, 1933). Half Sheet (22" X 28").
The Bitter Tea of General Yen was one of the last pre-Code films that Barbara Stanwyck would make before the Hays commission came to tame Hollywood. In this picture from director Frank Capra, Stanwyck's character falls for a Chinese warlord during a rebellion against the British Empire. The subject matter (of inter-racial relations) was a bit much for a lot of the American public at the time. Paper on this title has always been very scarce, in part due to the fact that many theatres refused to play the picture and this is a first time offer from Heritage. Nevertheless, this remains one of Stanwyck's most important and best roles, and the posters are quite collectible. Touchup has this half sheet displaying admirably, with attention to tears in the top border that extended into the image, chips in the borders, and additional tears in the other borders. The poster has been cleaned and pressed. Fine+ on Paper.
