DescriptionSirocco (Columbia CEIAD, 1952). Folded, Fine/Very Fine. Italian 2 - Fogli (39.5" X 55") Anselmo Ballester Artwork.
In the classic film noir Sirocco, Humphrey Bogart stars as Harry Smith, an American who get mixed up in a smuggling operation during the French occupation of Syria in 1925. Smith also gets mixed up with Violetta (Marta Toren) who is the mistress of the French head of military intelligence, Col. Feroud (Lee J. Cobb). Danger is ever-present, but Smith can't keep his eyes off of Violetta, and Violetta's magnetic presence is presented beautifully in this Italian 2-fogli created by noted Italian artist Anselmo Ballester. The colors on this poster are vivid and bright, and the poster displays pinholes, smudges, edge and fold wear, minute fold separations, and a few stains. There are also tears, including tears in Marta Toren's arm and in the background area to the right of her image. In the far right side of Bogart's image are slight paper remnants, and there are small chips in Toren's arm and in the background area near the title. Both chips in the image area are backed with paper splices touched up to approximate the image. On the verso are strips of masking and cellophane tape.
Estimate: $5,000 - $10,000.
