    Description

    Scrap Iron (c. 1926). Russian Poster (29" X 42") Stenberg Brothers Artwork.
Vladimir and Georgii Stenberg were Soviet artists and graphics designers who are regarded as among the first of the Constructivist school of Russian poster artists. Starting in 1923, they designed over three hundred posters specifically for film and also organized the first Film Poster Exhibition in Moscow. This example is from the 1926 Russian release of the American film starring Charles Ray, The Punch/Scrap Iron (originally First National Pictures, 1921). The brothers are famed for their Constructivist style, in this case merging the geometry of the boxing ring with the fluidity and dynamism of the sport, blurring the gloves and feet of the boxer. A Heritage first. The linen has been trimmed to the edge of the poster. Touchup was applied to pinholes in the corners, tears in the top and left border (one tear at top has a faint tape stain), and two pinholes in top right background. Very Fine- on Linen.
