    Description

Romeo and Juliet (MGM, 1936). Fine+ on Linen. Three Sheet (41.5" X 79") Style B. From the Mike Kaplan Collection.
Gorgeous and full of bright stone litho color, this rare style B three sheet is making its first ever appearance at Heritage and was at one point had a place in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Grand Lobby Gallery. William Shakespeare's tragic romance has been filmed many times over the years, but no one gave it the "studio" look like MGM. Legendary producer Irving Thalberg cast his wife Norma Shearer in the role of Juliet, and the part earned her a fifth Oscar nomination. Her husband was nominated as producer (Best Picture) even though he died shortly after the film's release. The poster has undergone restoration to address fold wear and separations, tears, and chips, some of which have splices. A few of the chips were in Leslie Howard's jacket along with some surface wear, which has also had touchup applied. There are a few minor unaddressed chips in the borders, but they are almost unnoticeable in so grand and enchanting a poster as this three sheet.
