Description
Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm (Artcraft, 1917). One Sheet (28" X 42").Bestowed the title of "America's Sweetheart," silent film superstar Mary Pickford was ideally cast as the optimistic Rebecca Randall in this first screen adaptation of Kate Douglas Wiggin's famed 1908 novel. The film was made by Pickford's own production company and is notable for being adapted to the screen by one of the first female screenwriters, Frances Marion, who was a favorite of Pickford and wrote several films for the star. Made at the height of Pickford's popularity, this is one of the finest of her Little Girl roles, and was a huge box office success. The actress was twenty-three at the time, but looked considerably younger, enabling her to portray the part of a spirited young girl who is left with her no-nonsense aunt (Helen Jerome Eddy) by her downtrodden mother. This exquisite stone lithography one sheet is making its Heritage debut, filled with an image of the darling Pickford being scolded by her disapproving auntie. Besides being monumentally rare, this poster is a beautiful homage to one of Hollywood's most prolific talents. The one sheet has been restored on linen with touchup to the folds, a tear in the left border extending into the black background, a small tear in the left border, a chip and tiny holes in the bottom border, tear in the right border into the blue background, a small chip in the left and right border, a small hole in the left green background, diagonal creases, and the bottom border which was previously folded back. Very Fine- on Linen.
