    Description

Orphans of the Storm (United Artists, 1921). Fine. Window Card (13.5" X 21").
This is a rare opportunity for the silent film enthusiast as this is the first time Heritage has offered this very rare card and may be the only one known to have survived. In what many consider to be his greatest motion picture accomplishment, D.W. Griffith skillfully combines melodrama and historical political intrigue to create one of the most spectacular and poignant films of this early era of American cinema. Real-life sisters Lillian and Dorothy Gish play the two orphans of the title, bringing pathos and a sense of realism to a moving (albeit far-fetched) story of two innocents who get caught up in the turbulent events of the French Revolution. Indications of age include mild edge wear, a few small chips, pinholes, and thin surface scuffs and scratches. There is staining along the borders and in the interior with soft surface rippling, as well as some soiling. Though the card measures less than what became the standard of 14" X 22," we do not believe this card is trimmed and is entirely intact.
