Description

Oliver Twist (Eagle Lion, 1948). Italian 2 - Fogli (39.5" X 55"). Anselmo Ballester Artwork.
John Howard Davies, who played the title character in this adaptation of Charles Dickens second novel, had a long career as a producer and director after acting in four films as a child. The orphan who joins in with a gang of pickpockets under the tutelage of Fagin (Alec Guinness) was Davies' first role. With the support of such British actors as Robert Newton, Kay Walsh and Anthony Newley, the film is recognized as a classic interpretation of Dickens directed by the great David Lean. Before restoration, there were pinholes in the borders and light touchup to the folds. Still visible is some light writing bleedthrough in the left background. Magnificent artwork by Anselmo Ballester. Very Fine on Linen.

    Estimate: $1,500 - $3,000.
