Based off of Harold Owen and Harry M. Vernon's 1913 stage play, this William Nigh production tells the tale of a wealthy Chinese merchant, his daughter, and their tragic entanglement with an English family. Lon Chaney plays the titular Mr. Wu, while Renée Adorée portrays his wayward daughter, and Ralph Forbes acts as the dashing British interloper. Lon Chaney was one of the most versatile and powerful actors of early cinema, best known for his roles as tortured, afflicted characters that empowered him to use groundbreaking artistry with makeup. Beautiful pastel-hued border art, and distinctive lettering showcasing the dramatic portrait of Chaney and Louise Dresser make this one of the prettiest presentations from the Golden Age of Hollywood. Just three neat marginal pinholes, a tiny edge bump and tear, and very faint rubbing barely detract from the otherwise pristine quality of this 98-year old artifact.
