Meet John Doe (Warner Brothers, 1941). Window Card (14" X 22").Barbara Stanwyck stars as a fast talking and manipulative newspaper reporter who comes up with a scheme to keep herself from being laid off of work. She writes a letter from "John Doe" that decries the apathy in the country concerning people in need-- a letter that states the only way out may be suicide. The only hitch in her plan is when she needs a real "John Doe" to make public appearances. Enter John Willoughby (Gary Cooper) who soon becomes the figurehead for a grassroots political movement. This film was pure Frank Capra and his glorification of the common man; a theme that would repeat itself in numerous Capra pictures. Most of the posters created by Warner Brothers for the films release featured a romantic pairing of the two stars, however, this window card captures the true essence of the movie-- the films final moment as Stanwyck rescues Cooper's John Doe from committing suicide by jumping off of a roof. The poster was cleaned due to a stain in the lower left section and the white areas have had airbrush work done to them, but otherwise, this impressive window card was in spectacular condition. This poster is by far the best image created for the film and this is the first time we've ever come across this magnificent poster. Very Fine.
