    Description

Meet John Doe (Scalera Film, 1948). Very Fine. Original Italian Mixed Media Comp Artwork on Paper (11.5" X 20") Attributed to Averardo Ciriello.
A one-of-a-kind piece offered for the first time at Heritage, this brightly-colored artwork is most likely a preliminary composition illustration made for Meet John Doe's Italian poster by Averardo Ciriello. Though not signed, the piece was found within a portfolio of Ciriello's work, who created the final artwork for the 2 - fogli poster and has a similar image to the one found on this illustration. The artist created several illustrations for numerous titles spanning several studios from Hollywood's MGM to Italy's Titanus, his most popular works found on posters for It's a Wonderful Life, Stromboli, Miracle on 34th Street, Dr. No, From Russia with Love, Thunderball, Forbidden Planet, and many, many more. This vibrant illustration shows signs of handling consistent with the production process including light edge wear and creases, as well as faint smudges. There are a few light dust shadows at the edges that come nowhere close to affecting the interior's lovely image of Barbara Stanwyck and Gary Cooper.
