Kansas City Bomber (MGM, 1972). Autographed Pair of Official Giveaway Roller Derby Rink Skates (Size: 7) in Original Box (13" X 4.5" X 14").
In the seedy and manipulated world of roller derby, where the matches are staged but the violence is real, K.C. Carr (Raquel Welch) worries about her children and paying bills by day, and worries about the violent derby matches by night. Welch was a major box office star by 1972, and when this film was released, MGM hit upon a very novel promotional idea. They did an official giveaway contest of an actual pair of roller derby skates signed by Welch. This lot is a pair of these skates, accompanied by an official note from MGM, and one of the skates has been signed by the star. Also included is the original box and a small wrench for skate maintenance. The skates show general surface wear, a few smudges, and appear to have been used. Welch's autograph has very slight smudging on it but it doesn't detract from its appeal. The box, which does not affect the overall grade, also has surface wear, scuffs, stains, paper lifts, and a piece of cellophane tape on the top. Very Fine.
