Hungarian Soviet Propaganda (1919). Propaganda Poster (34.75" X 45.75"). "Protect! The Power of the Proletariat!" Ödön Dankó Artwork. From the collection of Dr. Hans Sachs.
A striking remnant of Hungary's turbulent past, Ödön Dankó's powerful image captures the ideals that sparked the Soviet overthrow of Hungary's burgeoning democracy after the Austro-Hungarian Empire's dissolution. Although the Bolshevik movement held power only for a scant four months, several politically charged artists created a number of expressive pieces in support of their populist ideals, decrying Europe's negligent monarchies and uplifting the country's downtrodden laborers. This stunning piece of history shows pinholes in the borders, a couple of small pieces of cellophane tape in the borders, some writing bleedthrough in the background, minor tears and light creasing in the borders, a bend in the upper left corner, one small tear in the center background, some smudging, and writing in the lower left corner. The linen has been trimmed up to the borders, but not into the poster itself. There is an sticker on the verso that identifies this item from the collection of Dr. Hans Sachs. Fine/Very Fine on Linen.
