Description

    Hidden Pearls (Paramount., 1918). One Sheet (28" X 42").
Sessue Hayakawa was one of the first Asian actors to earn fame in American cinema. He acted in, directed and produced films in both English and Japanese, thriving during the silent era and transitioning very successfully into the talkie period. The zenith of Hayakawa's career was an Academy Award nomination for his performance in the 1957 film The Bridge on the River Kwai. This lovely stone litho one sheet (a Heritage first) is from the actor's turn as the son of an American pearl trader and a Hawaiian island princess. Florence Vidor plays his fiancee who's not so keen to marry him when his family's fortune is lost. Excellent restoration has this piece displaying exceedingly well. The borders have been airbrushed to address missing paper, and touchup applied to chips in the right background, and chips and tears in Vidor's dress, hand and in the cross folds. Very Good- on Linen.
