Description

Giant (Warner Bros., 1956). Fine/Very Fine. Lobby Card (11" X 14").
Classic could be the most frequently heard word describing George Stevens' sprawling 20th century saga concerning the old moneyed Benedict family, their vast ranch of Reata, and the rebel wildcatter whose luck seems to conflict with the status quo of the time. Based on Edna Ferber's best selling novel, the film stars Rock Hudson, a beautiful Elizabeth Taylor and the most mythologized screen actor, James Dean, in his final role. This rarely offered portrait card of Jett Rink (Dean) lounging proudly in an open topped vintage car has always been treasured by collectors as not only the best by far in the set, but easily one of the most distinctly iconic images for this larger than life film. Due to Dean's untimely death before the film was even released, worldwide demand for screenings left Warner Brothers unprepared for the amount of theatrical publicity material needed, so consequently virtually all paper from this film was used over and over from one town to another, resulting in uncommon wear compared to other titles of the time. This card was no exception, but has been skillfully restored to address border and background pinholes, abrasions, and overall general handling, now presenting admirably.
