Gentleman's Agreement (20th Century Fox, 1947). Insert (14" X 36"). A hard-hitting and courageous film, Gentleman's Agreement is the story of Phil Green (Gregory Peck), a young journalist who poses as a Jew in order to write about the scourge of Anti-Semitism sweeping the nation. Although urged by several influential Hollywood figures - all Jewish themselves - not to make the movie for fear of making things worse, 20th Century Fox head Daryl F. Zanuck backed the project to the limit, even risking substantial lawsuits from several real-life figures named as Anti-Semites in the movie. The courage and dedication of everyone involved with the picture was eventually rewarded, as not only was it Fox's top money-maker for the year, but it also earned three Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Director (Elia Kazan), and Best Supporting Actress (Celeste Holm). This highly desirable insert, which pictures Peck as well as co-stars Dorothy McGuire and John Garfield, shows light fold wear, light creasing at the bottom, mild edge wear, and small corner bumps, but is generally clean and attractive, ready to enhance any collection. Very Fine.
