    Description

Dodsworth (United Artists, 1936). Folded, Fine/Very Fine. One Sheet (27" X 41"). From the Mike Kaplan Collection.
Eye-catching with its Art Deco design, this scarce one sheet is always an item of high interest whenever it comes to auction. It's an exceptional poster to compliment a likewise exceptional film, which earned itself a total of seven Academy Award nominations, including Best Director for William Wyler, Best Actor for Walter Huston (who had starred in the Broadway play), and Outstanding Production for Samuel Goldwyn. However, this adaptation of Sinclair Lewis' beloved novel likewise benefitted from fantastic performances by the likes of Ruth Chatterton, Mary Astor, both certainly contributing to the picture's critical acclaim. Such indications of handling present in this lovely poster include slight fold wear and separation, minor tears, pinholes, and a very small chip in the upper border. Also apparent are a few faint smudges, light creases, as well as edge and fold toning. There are a couple of pieces of paper tape on the verso with small paper lifts, both of which show through to the front. The verso also has small pieces of mending tissue bracing the folds. The poster's image, however, is intact and will still look beautiful no matter the setting.

    Estimate: $6,000 - $12,000.
