    Description

    Disraeli (United Artists, 1921). Lobby Cards (4) (11" X 14").
Prior to this silent film version, stage luminary George Arliss starred in the play by Louis N. Parker, and embodied the perfect Benjamin Disraeli in both productions. The story tells of the prejudice towards the Jewish, middle-class Disraeli when he became Prime Minister, and of his success acquiring the Suez Canal for England. Charming performances by supporting cast members include Arliss' real life wife, Florence, playing Disraeli's treasured spouse, Lady Beaconsfield, and young paramours Louise Huff and Reginald Denny. Arliss clearly felt comfortable in this role, as he remade Disraeli as a highly lauded talkie in 1929. This is the first time Heritage has presented any paper from this film, as it is extremely rare. The lobby cards are in remarkable condition for their age. All have corner bends and minor edge wear, two have small tears in the borders, one has an unobtrusive surface scuff, and one has pinhole in the bottom border. Today, Disraeli is a lost film with only one reel surviving at the George Eastman House, Rochester, New York. An exciting find for the silent film aficionado!. Very Fine-.
