Day of Reckoning (MGM, 1933). Lobby Card Set of 8 (11" X 14"). 1933 was a good year for actress Una Merkel. In that year alone, 13 films arrived in theaters with her in the cast, including her most memorable turn in "42nd Street." She was the Carrie Fisher of her time, the blunt and sarcastic (and relatively homely) friend of the leading lady. In the case of "Day of Reckoning," she plays a maid, and the leading lady is the beautiful Madge Evans as a conniving wife. She's indirectly responsible for the imprisonment of both of the men in her life -- one for theft and one for murder...her own. Merkel lightens the heavy drama and keeps the histrionic plot movements grounded. These cards are in unbelievable condition, with no signs of age or wear. They present many of the film's best scenes: the prison confrontation, the moments before Evans' murder, the kiss between Dix and Evans. Near Mint+.
