Dark Victory (Warner Brothers, 1939). Insert (14" X 36"). There are tear-jerkers and then there is Bette Davis in "Dark Victory." Davis, riding a successful career in a series of women's picture like "Dangerous" and "Jezebel," suddenly found herself cast as a snobbish socialite who soon learns humility. By the picture's end you come to love her and are shocked to find that she will soon go blind and die from a brain tumor. This extremely rare insert has many fine crimps throughout (probably from being rolled too tightly at one time) and all four corners were chipped off at one time with all but one being replaced with small bits of paper. There are many small tears in the edges and there is a two-inch tear in the upper center that goes into the first "t" in Bette. Tape on the back of the poster reinforces these tears. In the hands of a good restoration artist, this poster could be brought back to its original beauty. Very Good+.
