Chained (MGM, 1934). Fine+ on Linen. One Sheet (27" X 41") Style D. From the Mike Kaplan Collection.
Making its debut appearance for auction at Heritage, this striking stone litho one sheet is one collectors should take note of as it is the only known copy. MGM was known for their predominately white background posters, but from time to time they would produce a stunning dark background posters such as this! Boasting wonderful portraits of stars Clark Gable and Joan Crawford, this was their fifth film together and they would go on to collaborate three more times, one of which would be later that year in Forsaking All Others. One of their best known pictures together is the 1931 Possessed. Because of the pair's on-screen chemistry, as is evident in Chained, they would be linked romantically for a number of years. Touchup has been applied to fold wear and separation, creases, and some of the pinholes. There are some chips and tears that have been partially addressed, but are still visible, including a diagonal tear from the lower border to the lower crossfold. The poster has unaddressed stains and smudges. The linen has been trimmed to the borders of the poster, but not into the poster. With its striking image of Gable and Crawford, this poster is sure to make a wonderful addition to any collection.
