    Description

Black Narcissus (General Film, 1947). Fine+ on Linen. British Quad (30" X 40") Eric W. Pulford Artwork.
Deborah Kerr stars in this British production by the acclaimed team of Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger, playing a nun who must deal with temptations and passion while at a convent in the Himalayan Mountains. Much of the film's acclaim stems from its gorgeous visuals, full of sumptuous, vibrant color to match the story's beautiful setting. Surprisingly, Pressburger and Powell shot most of the footage in the studio or in the gardens of an Indian Army retiree, using matte paintings on glass to suggest vast mountainous expanses in the background. For these thorough technical efforts, the picture was rewarded with two Oscars for Cinematography and Art Direction. Paper from this film is rare, and this is the first country of origin British quad we at Heritage have ever had the pleasure to offer. There were a few tears into the artist's credit at the lower left, small bits of paper loss in the crossfolds, and chips in three corners. There was some fold and border wear, but, after being professionally restored, this lovely poster displays beautifully. Fine+ on Linen.
