This immense MGM spectacle was the most expensive production of the silent era at $4 million (approx. $64 million today) - obtaining the rights to the Lew Wallace novel and shooting the film was so pricey that Ben-Hur, despite being the top earner of the year in its original release, did not turn a profit for its studio until its 1931 reissue. Nonetheless, the film was still a global smash during its initial world-wide run, including in Sweden where the one sheet offered in this lot was designed by Eric Rohman. This poster emphasizes the luxury of the production with gold leaf printing applied to parts of the chariot, and displays well with sumptuous color and only light edge and fold wear.
