DescriptionBeggars of Life (Paramount, 1928). Lobby Card (11" X 14").
Wallace Beery may have top billing for this railway drama, but Louise Brooks is the true star of the show, using her androgynous beauty to play a girl on the run from a murder rap. Inspired by Jim Tully's Novel Beggar's of Life: A Hobo Autobiography, Brooks hops a train with Richard Arlen and disguises herself as his younger brother to avoid the suspicions of the law. Their plans go awry when they encounter the boozy leader of a hobo camp, played by Beery, who speaks his first lines on screen in this early talkie. Featuring a bright image of all three leads, this card has pinholes in the corners, faint border stains, and a horizontal crease across the middle. There is a small tear in the right border with archival tape on the verso. Fine/Very Fine.
Estimate: $1,000 - $2,000.
