    Description

Anatomy of a Murder (Art Krebs Screen Studio, 1984). Saul Bass Silk-Screen Poster (25.25" X 35.5").
When Saul Bass, the legendary poster/ visuals/ titles designer, submitted his designs for film posters, often the studio would reassemble or alter his original ideas. Here is a rare opportunity to see what Bass originally conceived for the poster for Anatomy of a Murder. The studio altered the completely blood red background, opting instead for a diluted orange background on top, and enlarged actor credits on the bottom in an also diluted red. The closest the Bass conception would come were the oversize posters done in Italy for the Italian release of the film who seemed to have no trouble understanding the importance of blood red to the central plot of the film. In frustration, Bass would often go to one of the best print studios in Los Angeles, the Art Krebs Screen Studio, just around the corner from his studio, and privately print his original designs in editions of only 100-400 intended as gifts for friends, Museum of Modern Art, and exhibitions. This silkscreen was done in 1984 in an edition of 300, per a listing from the seller of the remaining few copies who had been engaged by the Bass estate. Minor edge wear in the top and left borders does not depreciate the prominently featured Saul Bass artwork. What a completely unique and grand companion piece this would be, displayed with the American one sheet. Rolled, Near Mint+.
