    Description

    Alexander Nevsky (Mosfilm, R-1960s). One Sheet (30" X 39.5").
To understand the importance of this brilliant 1938 masterpiece by Russian director Sergei M. Eisenstein, you must understand Nefsky's importance to the Russian people. He was voted the main hero of Russia's history by popular vote in 2008. Nevsky (1220-1263) lived a short but incredibly eventful life. This film has been called by major critics worldwide for years, "...the best film you've never heard of." It's all about evil Teutonic knights invading Mother Russia and Nevsky leading a rag-tag group of peasants to repel them. (Sound familiar in terms of WWII ?) Stalin demanded it be shown at every available theatre in Russia at one point. The battle scenes would make Kurosawa blush with envy, they're breathtaking...on melting ice...heading towards a waterfall. This beautifully drawn poster is from India for a mid-1960s reissue of the film there. There is one pinhole at the bottom center, edge wear with small tears and chips, a bottom border stain, and a small hole in the top center. Poster material for this amazing film is virtually nonexistent. Fine/Very Fine.
