Description

Abie's Irish Rose (Paramount, 1928). Three Sheet (40.25" X 78.25").
Victor Fleming, already well established as a director in his pre-Wizard of Oz, Gone With the Wind days, directs this comedy based on a huge Broadway comedy hit about the marriage between a Jewish boy (Charles 'Buddy' Rogers) and a Catholic girl (Nancy Carroll). Paramount paid a whooping $500,000 for the screen rights (the highest paid up until that time) and cast the young Carroll as Rosemary Murphy. Notice she gets last billing on the poster as it was a very early film role, yet she would go on to be a huge star throughout the early 1930s. This film was a part-talkie and has subtitles within those silent sequences. Offered here is a beautiful large format poster for the film and sports a lovely portrait of the two stars in stone lithography. The poster has fold wear and a tear within the center vertical fold which extends into Roger's face. These are clean tears and could be easily restored when removed from the backing by a professional restoration group. There is also a small amount of trimming to the outer borders as the poster does not measure the standard 41" X 81" of the normal three sheet and was probably done when mounted on the backing when originally displayed. Fine on Kraft Paper.
