Description

    Dracula's Daughter (Eros,1950s). British Quad (30" X 40").
This sequel to Dracula (1931) is largely based on a short story by Bram Stoker. After the events of the previous film, Professor Van Helsing (Edward Van Sloan) is charged with the murder of Count Dracula. Suddenly, a mysterious woman, the countess Marya Zaleska (Gloria Holden), claiming to be the Count's daughter, steals the vampire's body and cremates it. Soon, it appears there's more to the countess than meets the eye when she approaches Dr. Jeffrey Garth (Otto Kruger) about freeing her from a dangerous desire to drink human blood. This beautiful quad is probably the first distribution of the classic horror title in the UK. During the 1930s the British Board of Film Censors discouraged the US studios from making horror films and it was this film that created a gap in the production of these films for several years in Hollywood. Great Britain was a significant market for Hollywood and thus very influential. After the war the UK market began to loosen their controls on the distribution of US films and thus Eros Films (circa 1947-1961), an independent distributor, would release many of the Universal films missed from previous years. Great imagery and bright colors! There has been touchup to chips and pinholes in the borders, and a center crossfold chip. Fine/Very Fine on Linen.
