    Description

Double Indemnity (Paramount, 1944). Folded, Very Fine. One Sheet (27" X 41"). From the Mike Kaplan Collection.
Director Billy Wilder created what has become a classic film noir with this, his third U.S. film as director. Based on the novel by James M. Cain and with a screenplay by Wilder and Raymond Chandler, this thriller keeps audiences enthralled from start to finish throughout its many twists and turns. Fred MacMurray and Barbara Stanwyck perfectly play the doomed-from-the-start lovers and Edward G. Robinson gives a brilliant performance as the unrelenting Barton Keyes. A critical success, this film was nominated for seven Academy Awards, including Best Actress (Stanwyck), Best Director (Billy Wilder), and Best Picture. This one sheet has been showcased at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Grand Lobby Gallery, with indications of handling including small fold separations, pinholes, minor tears, as well as unobtrusive stains and smudges. There are several pieces of paper tape on the verso.
