Description

The Sting (Universal, 1973). Alternate Style One Sheet (27.25" X 40.75").
George Roy Hill directs Robert Redford and Paul Newman as con artists who team up to avenge the death of a mutual friend killed by the mob, their mark being the all powerful Doyle Lonnegan (Robert Shaw). An intriguing tale of the 1930s Chicago underworld, no one is to be trusted, and as the plot unfolds, the movie's many twists and turns lead to what many consider to be the greatest film double cross of all times. With one of the most memorable screen duos, Newman and Redford, an incredible ensemble cast of colorful characters played by Charles Durning, Harold Gould, Eileen Brennan and Ray Walston, and a memorable music score, the film was rewarded with 7 Academy Awards including Best Picture, Director and Screenplay. The origin and use of this poster is a mystery as it was not the standard release poster issued for the film but is of the age with machine folding. This very rare silk screened alternate style one sheet was done in the stylish Art Deco look that was so popular during the 1930s. The poster displays very well after touchup to a small hole in the left border and one in the "T" of "STING." There is minuscule chipping in some areas of the image as is a screened print. Very Fine on Linen.
