    Description

The Sting by Bill Gold Advertising (Universal, 1973). Poster Concept Images (3) (20" X 30"), Richard Amsel Print and Rubylith Overlay for Printing (17.5" X 22").
The late Bill Gold was one of Hollywood's great poster designers working from the early 1940s until the 1990s. One of his most recognizable posters is for the Academy Award Winner for Best Picture in 1974, The Sting, starring Paul Newman and Robert Redford. This amazing lot includes three concept designs labeled on the verso of each "Bill Gold Advertising, Fifth Ave. New York" with the agency logo. The last item is a beautiful color photographic print of the Richard Amsel art used in the campaign. It has a cut Rubylith overlay, as this piece was most likely used to produce the one sheet's offset lithography printing plate. The concept pieces, which are mocked up using various photos and what seem to be a silk-screen of the type on each, are all in good shape and attached behind a matte with masking tape. The photo and Rubylith show signs of a lost tissue overlay. Fine/Very Fine.
