    Description

Mean Streets (Warner Bros., 1973). Rolled, Fine+. British Quad (30" X 40"). Peter Strausfeld Artwork.
Considered by many to be the first great film from Martin Scorsese, Mean Streets took what the legendary director experienced on a day to day basis while growing up in Little Italy and expressed it on the big screen. This would be the first of many collaborations between Scorsese and actor Robert De Niro, who would go on to work together on Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, and more. Offered here is the rare and much sought after poster created by artist Peter Strausfeld for the Academy Cinema in Oxford Street, London. Strausfeld interned during the war along with Academy Cinema director George Hoellering. After the war, Hoellering asked Strausfeld to produce posters for the cinema. This magnificent piece depicts De Niro's character, Johnny Boy, menacingly holding a pistol with a grin on his face, and is amongst the most rare of Strausfeld's work for the Academy Cinema. Indications of use include slight edge wear, mild creases, pinholes, and small tears and chips. There is a tear that extends from the left border to the "r" of "streets." The verso has some strips of cellophane tape on the verso bracing tears.
