    Description

City Streets (Paramount, 1931). Full- Bleed One Sheet (26" X 39.75") Style A.
As the true-life exploits of prohibition era gangsters exploded across the nation's headlines, Hollywood capitalized on them by bringing their bullet-riddled stories to the silver screen. Gary Cooper stars in one of the earliest gangster films of the pre-Code era as a sharp-shooter who's talked into joining the mob. Cooper's natural stoicism brought a depth to the character that mesmerized audiences. After the amazing success of Warner Brothers' Little Caesar in January 1931, Paramount rushed City Streets into production. The film was released a week before James Cagney would shoot up the screen in The Public Enemy and solidify the gangster genre in American cinema. In the process, gangster films rapidly became one of the most popular genres, no doubt due to the increasing stories in the daily newspapers relating the exploits of real-life gangsters and crime lords. This particular example has had restoration to replace the right two inches of the image and numerous other cracks and small tears in the background. There were also a few holes in the black background but all of these issues have been addressed and the poster is now quite presentable. This was one of the full-bleed posters Paramount created during this period. From the Berwick Discovery. Good/Very Good on Linen.
