    Description

Angels with Dirty Faces (Warner Brothers, 1938). One Sheet (27" X 41").
The familiar tale of two young boys from the streets, one of whom grows up to be a gangster (James Cagney) and the other a priest (Pat O'Brien). Brisk direction by Michael Curtiz, a superb score by Max Steiner, and terrific support from Humphrey Bogart and Ann Sheridan add up to one of the best crime dramas of the '30s. Cagney gave the performance of his career--from his classic line "Whadda ya hear, whadda ya say?" to his final scene of panicked crying as he walks the final mile to the electric chair, accompanied by his childhood pal. O'Brien begs him to grovel so the Dead End Kids will quit worshiping him as a tough-guy. Does he give in? Or is he really a coward? You never know for sure. Cagney is simply riveting and deservedly earned his first Academy Award nomination for his performance. Conservation on this classic poster has addressed fold wear, pinholes, and a couple of paper lifts. Unrestored issues include a small tear in Pat O'Brien's forehead and foxing in the borders. The linen has been trimmed to the borders, but this does not affect the poster itself. Very Fine- on Linen.
