Description
Notorious (RKO, 1948). Fine/Very Fine on Linen. French Grande (46" X 62.25").Alfred Hitchcock's Notorious remains one of the director's most sophisticated thrillers, pairing Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman in a tense story of espionage and romance set against the shadowy world of postwar intrigue. This commanding French grande uses a dramatic red-and-black palette, an oversized key motif - a direct reference to the pivotal key that unlocks the secrets of the Nazi conspiracy at the center of the film - and elegant imagery of Grant and Bergman in a passionate embrace beneath ominous looming figures. Particularly elusive in this format, Heritage Auctions has offered this specific French grande design only once before, nearly ten years ago. Touchup has addressed fold wear, creases, some crossfold wear, and moderate tears and splits. Toning remains.
