Description
Casablanca (Warner Bros., 1947). Very Fine- on Linen. First Post-War Release French Half Grande (31.5" X 47"). Pierre Pigeot Artwork.Presented in this lot is the exceptionally rare Casablanca French half grande featuring magnificent artwork by celebrated illustrator Pierre Pigeot, a format Heritage has offered only once before. Created for the film's first post-war release in France, the poster beautifully reflects Ingrid Bergman's immense popularity with European audiences, her luminous portrait the largest in the design. Surrounding her, Humphrey Bogart and Sydney Greenstreet bring added atmosphere and intrigue through a tense chess match rendered in Pigeot's elegant, painterly style. The result is one of the most sophisticated and visually compelling international posters produced for this enduring cinematic masterpiece. Touchup has been applied skillfully and sparingly to correct fold wear, with only toning and a few smudges remaining visible.
